Mont-rebei Congost is a place that is part the Natural Partial Reserve Ribagorçana-Mont Rebei Noguera . Located at the boundary between the Lower Ribagorça in the west and the Pallars Jussàand Noguera in the east.

On the southeast side, belongs to the municipality of Ager Noguera , for the, the north-eastern San Esteve of Twill, Pallars Jussà . On the western side, is the town of Viacamp and bunk Lower Ribagorça.

This is a place of undeniable ecological value for wildlife that houses, among which include birds of prey, and the beauty of its rugged landscape. It has a great attraction for climbers and cavers who are excellent and some cave walls as the Colomera .

Sand can be reached by road from the bridge Montanyana and San Esteve Twill in the north, and from Ager the south. A public car park unguarded situated in the plain formed on the eastern shore north of the gorge. There is an information booth and summer didactic lectures are made.

In the Catalan side's passage through the gorge is a path entirely excavated in the rock, and in some points tunnel. Recall that this road is situated at high altitude and no railing, so it is not recommended for children or those suffering from vertigo. To the south, the road gains altitude and crosses the foothills of the mountain until you see the reservoir.

The gorge Mont-rebei is without doubt one of the most unique natural areas in the Pyrenean foothills, both from a landscape point of view, being the only major free gorge infrastructure, such asits biodiversity.

The flora and vegetation are divided into two main areas: the Mediterranean vegetation of the southern slope, where the protagonists are the trees, scrub and dry grasslands, and Eurosiberian northern slope vegetation, populated by oak. Highlights include several endemic species such as the rare Petrocoptis montsicciana and other rock-dwelling species such as the crown of the King (Saxifraga longifolia) or bear's ear (Ramonda myconi). There are also relict species surviving from other eras such as beech (Fagus sylvatica), or species that inhabit thanks to substrates and the special microclimate of the pass, as the coastal oak.

They inhabit several interesting wildlife species. Within the group of birds abound own large predatory birds of the Crags: The Vulture (Gypaetus barbatus), the Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus), the griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus), golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos)peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) and the yellow chough (Red-billed chough) and gentoo (Alpine chough) and treparriscos (Wallcreeper). Among mammals is the common otter (Lutra lutra), wild cat (Felis silvestris), marten (Martes martes), roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), the mole (Talpa europaea) and several species of bats.

The tour, which runs entirely in the province of Lleida, begins at the parking and information about The Masieta. To get to the starting point we have two options:

Congost de Mont-Rebei

We started our journey in the parking of Masieta. Before us the River Nogera Ribagorçana goes into the gorge, making zigzags and meanders into small, looking its course towards the Reservoir Canelles . Across the channel, on a rocky vantage hermitage of Mare de Deu del Congost Xiriveta and Castle, which is accessed from Bridge Montanyana stands.

We follow the indicators GR-1 , parallel to the river and soon arrived at a crossroads, we can use variants for return if we are not back by the same route. Later we reached the suspension bridge that crosses the ravine of the Mizzen, interesting and colorful step. The vegetation here is lush and dominates a small understory of shrubs and bushes. The gorge begins to form and the crossing is gaining interest with passages where we help of a handrail that offers Restraintd.

As we advance the vegetation tends to disappear and the path cut into the rock, jutting from the cliffs lofty, carved on the vertical walls.

We crossed a small tunnel and peered at us from their new panoramic viewpoint to see this impressive gorge that continues to impress.

A half Congosto is highly recommended to visit the Cave Colomera large cavity that opens to the gorge above the road. To get there we climb a steep slope equipped with chains and small clips via ferrata. The climb is worth it, the view from the entrance of the cavity are dizzying, as to separate some of the gorge can see it in perspective. Once inside the cave you can explore inside.

At the end of congost you walk into the Swamp Canelles but that means an additional 3 hours aproximadamenre. The route is very beautiful but long andn very hot summer.

It is worth closer to shelter Mas Carlets about 30 minutes from the end of the gorge. If we arrived at the shelter until the next curve caino a couple of minutes, we view a breathtaking view of the start of the gorge and the immense seem that rise before us.
